I promise you won’t have to follow some regimented fitness schedule. You will learn how to develop your own personalized fitness program on your own at your own pace.
So, let’s jump right into things
Develop the “mindset” to lose weight and become more fit. “Why do you want to lose weight in the first place? This is the most important question to answer and it’s the most question often overlooked. So spend time on this question and really be honest with yourself. Fitness and nutrition experts agree if you want to see in a change in your body you have to be emotionally fit too. So what are your specific reasons: To look better? health reasons? Training for an event?” The answer will be your driving force. Without a sound purpose, you won’t achieve your goal. In future articles I will help you develop your fitness vision. Fitness is not just about looking good and becoming healthy. Physical fitness plays a key role in the other areas of your life.
Develop an Action Plan. This action step is very personal and there will be no two action steps alike. Think about what you need to do right now, this very minute, as you are reading this article. For example, do you need workout clothes? Talk to a personal trainer to develop a workout program? Meet with a nutritionist to discuss your new diet? Just think about what you need to do right now to get you going.
Define the result. How much weight do you want to lose and when? For example, you may want to lose 10 pounds by next month. This step may require the help of a nutrition expert or a professional healthcare practitioner. But think about a definite result it will help to stay on target.
Set up an accountability group. Find people that are on the same fitness journey you are on and hold each other accountable. Tell each other your goals and how you are going to achieve them. Remember this group is about support, not criticism.
Reward System. The best step in the plan. How are going to reward yourself for a job well done? Go to a movie? Plan a Spa day? Buy something? I would avoid the snacks and desserts. You want to reinforce a healthy lifestyle not reward yourself by eating junk food.
Backup plan. Life happens and it’s important to prepare for life’s little setbacks. Don’t let the little things that will come up derail your plans to lose weight and become more fit. Maybe you have to skip a workout day, or you are traveling out of town and you won’t be near a gym. Or you injured yourself? What are you going to do?
Just refer back to the beginning of this article to get back on track. Try to think positivie. Remind yourself of the reasons for pursuing a fitness plan in the first place
- to lead a healthy lifestyle,
- to lose weight and look good,
- or prepare for an athletic event
- your Doctor recommended it
There are no wrong reasons but make sure the reason is sincere. The reason has to come from you. No one can give you a good reason nor should you be following someone else’s direction. If, however, there is something going on in your life that’s leaving your self-esteem a little down, then I recommend that you address that issue first. To start any weight loss program, you are going to need a healthy self-esteem.
In a future post, I will cover how to improve SELF-ESTEEM. It’s easier than you think and the first step is to find out what is your limiting belief
Fitness and nutrition experts agree.
Any goal that you set for yourself begins in your head. Your emotions and how you perceive yourself is going to play a major role in your weight loss goals.
